Ed, Deb, & Aunt Grace arrive early afternoon on July 10th. This is the year Sandi is fighting her miserable cancer, so they will not be coming. All is well with the property in general, no problems discovered. Also, this is the first year for Ed’s new, and hopefully last boat, a 19′ Vexus. So far so good_even Grace likes it. Several small pike caught, except for Deb’s 9.5# fish which we returned. Going to New Liskard this AM in search for proper chairs for dining and living area. No chairs, but some ideas.
I should mention that this year the water was very high due to excessive snow pack, some 13′ of snow. Anyway, we had 6″ – 7″ of water in the boathouse. No damage of note, just a factor to consider in future years.
Sunday, July 21st we go to Whitefish Bay.
One small pike & several small bass caught. Beautiful weather all day.
Thursday, July 25th
Grace departs 🙁 Left cabin at 7:00AM – 1:40 hours to airport. Grace misunderstood airline ticket and got there 20 minutes before take-off. They held the plane and all went well. Avoiding a greenhorn moment.
July 30th Sooo, Deb & I head to Triangle Bay (SW arm) for a lunch and fish day. After exclaiming that with so many islands the fishing will be poor, this Rabbit lands a 17# pike! Second in size all time_AMAZING! Lots of bass, too.
Also of note is our resident white-throat sparrow who is still singing August 3rd . We think he is overjoyed to have finally successfully raised young due to the lack of dogs on the island. He is CUTE!
Cute as well is the collection of puddle ducs that come to the dock. Some jump up on the dock and eat from your hand!
-Ed
Abby & Mazie arrived early evening of August 3rd after stopping in at Wolfe for a short visit with the Geblers, Saylors, PJ & Sandi.
“What a great relief Temagami is with temps in the high 70’s and water temp at 72°. Had my first swim Sunday morning, 2000 yards – 4 laps around the island. Mazie joining in for some too, swim right along and not atop.
A hearty breakfast to prep for biscuit hunting in Marshall’s Bay to make the “Spool” table for the main dock so Ed can enjoy his morning coffee. Squeeze in a bike ride on the trainer and bike I brought up, and a blue break with lunch, and then off to fish!
And… I bring home my first Pike wall fish, 8#! Yay! In Obabika Portage at the blowdown opposite the Studebaker. A bit crazy, Mom was stuck in the blowdown, and as Dee headed in to free her line, the pike struck mine. Thankfully, he took off away from the blowdown, Dee threw Mom’s rod onto shore, and we scooted out to free waters to net my wallfish!”
-Bee aka Abby Robb
Abby continues wtih a 9# at Cleminshaw’s on 8/5/19 and a 9.5# at Devil Point (behind Keewaydin) on 8/11/19. Yes, that’s 4 wall fish in 2 weeks, a record in itself except for some Skunk Lake trips.
Took a day trip to Gull Rock_lots of bass.
August 14th Ed, Deb and Abby take a day trip to Sharp Rock Inlet. Beautiful, but no fish of note. What is of note is we found out the very hard way that the south channel is NOT navigable for a boat_canoe only! We tried to pass through a too narrow and shallow passage and got STUCK. We all piled out and pushed and heaved until we almost got the boat beyond the point of no return. Almost is the important word. We heaved and pushed to go back & finally freed our craft. The decision to try the south passage was mine not thinking of my larger boat. It is canoe only! We’re calling that a greenhorn day, but otherwise it was a fine day.
Tomorrow is packing up and inventory, must go home_boo-hoo!
But_we took some afternoon time ot fish. Only went to Myer’s Bay area, caught a few bass & 2 pike. Big news was we saw 2 Moose at Bay’s end in the marsh. I think the only moose I’ve ever seen on Temagami proper. Got photos too_neat!
